Unusual photo series - surprising, bold and experimentally interpreted. Students from the Werbung und Marktkommunikation degree programme took a new look at the concept of "Wissenschaftsstandort Stuttgart" and implemented it creatively in their photography.
"Wissen trifft Stadt"
The task of this semester was the scenic/photographic staging of the places, living and working spaces in Stuttgart. More precisely, a photographic expedition to: Stuttgart as a centre of science. The aim of the campaign is to make the state capital Stuttgart, a location with a strong scientific focus, even more visible and to continuously promote its development. Young people with a thirst for knowledge should perceive the state capital as a lively scientific landscape.

Idea and realisation - picture 1 and 2
Accordingly, we decided to use urban photography to depict people, research and well-known places in Stuttgart in order to establish a connection with younger generations. The locations vary from scientific institutions to popular places in Stuttgart. In the foreground, people are depicted carrying classic research objects, which are mainly used in laboratories. This creates a link between scientific props and urban, youthful style.
True to the slogan: "Wissen trifft Stadt", this crossover is intended to make science more attractive and appealing to young people at the Baden-Württemberg Science Centre and to depict the city in all its facets.
Image 1 (above):
The model puts the lab gloves in the limelight. The glasses and rings emphasise the street style, creating a charming link to research. The combination of science and modernity is emphasised by the location and the outfit.
Image 2 (right):
In the background of this image you can see the art museum, a building that truly stands in the heart of Stuttgart. The model poses in front of it with protective laboratory goggles and casual clothing, which emphasises the importance of young people in research. The chosen angle brings additional dynamism to the picture.

Realisation - picture 3
In the third picture, the model can be seen in the well-known underground station "Staatsgalerie" directly in front of an incoming underground train. Public transport connects the city centre with the surrounding areas and is therefore of essential importance, especially for young people. The black outfit forms a nice contrast to the white lab coat, which once again shows that research and urbanity can go hand in hand.

Realisation - Figure 4
The Fraunhofer Institute in the background and the model with pipette in the foreground underline the importance of an established organisation for applied research.

Realisation - Figure 5
Two models pose in front of the little pub “Palace of the Republic”, each holding an Erlenmeyer flask of beer. The sociability is emphasised not only by the number of models, but also by the chosen location, which once again highlights the importance of the community.

Realisation - Figure 6
In the foreground you can see a model with the logo of the “Wissenschaftstandort Stuttgart” coloured in the back of his head. The view upwards to the university building can be interpreted as the pursuit of knowledge
